A Story of Transformation

UWC Thailand's story begins in 2008, when it was established as Phuket International Academy (PIA) — an international school founded by educators who envisioned a holistic model of education for the growing expatriate and international community in Phuket, Thailand.

The UWC Transition (2016)

In August 2016, the school made a defining decision: it joined the United World Colleges movement, one of the world's most respected international education networks. This transition was more than a rebranding. It involved:

• Adopting the UWC mission and selection philosophy
• Committing to the full IB continuum (PYP, MYP, and DP)
• Pursuing and achieving CIS (Council of International Schools) accreditation
• Establishing a national committee-based scholarship selection process

The original founders' vision of holistic education aligned naturally with the UWC ethos, making the transition a philosophical continuation as much as an institutional change.

Growth and Recognition

Since 2016, UWC Thailand has grown to approximately 580 students representing 57 nationalities. It has become one of only 18 UWC schools globally and the only UWC school in Thailand. The school's Class of 2023 sent graduates to over 200 institutions on all continents, including Oxford, Yale, Cornell, and University of Pennsylvania.

The school occupies a campus at 115/15 Moo 7, Thepkrasattri Road, Thalang, Phuket — approximately 10 minutes from Phuket International Airport. IB Continuum Structure

Admissions at UWC Thailand

UWC Thailand's admissions process is genuinely unusual among international schools in Southeast Asia. It combines selectivity with radical financial accessibility — an expression of the school's core belief that economic circumstances should not determine educational opportunity.

Two Pathways to Admission

Direct admissions (Nursery to Grade 10) is managed by the school directly. Families apply with an Application Fee of 6,000 THB, submit documentation, and are assessed through the school's criteria.

UWC national committee selection applies primarily to DP students (Grades 11–12). In this pathway, students are nominated and selected by their national UWC committee (operating in 150+ countries), and the vast majority receive full or partial scholarships.

Financial Aid at Scale

For direct-entry families, once an Acceptance Letter is issued:

• Application Fee: 6,000 THB (non-refundable, paid at application)
• Placement Fee: 80,000 THB (non-refundable enrolment guarantee)
• Security Deposit: 20,000 THB (fully refundable on graduation, less any outstanding payments)
• Sibling Discounts: 5% for 2nd child, 15% for 3rd child, 25% for 4th child enrolled simultaneously

Selectivity in Practice

The school describes itself as having a "low selectivity rate" and "rigorous criteria."
