History: A School Built for Ambition

Origins (2016)

The Wingate School was established in 2016 by a group of educators with strong ties to Brighton's educational tradition in the United Kingdom. Their goal was clear: to create a genuinely British international school in Mexico City that would serve expatriate families and locally resident international families with the same rigour and warmth found in leading UK independent schools.

The school opened its doors in the Virreyes neighbourhood — a central, affluent district of Mexico City favoured by diplomatic and expatriate communities. From the outset, demand was strong enough that several year groups quickly filled to capacity.

Relocation and Expansion

The Virreyes site, though well-positioned, could not accommodate the school's ambitions for a full Through-School (ages 3–18). The decision was made to relocate to a purpose-built campus in Huixquilucan, Estado de México — a municipality adjacent to Mexico City's western suburbs, accessible from Polanco, Santa Fe, and Lomas de Chapultepec via dedicated school bus routes.

The new campus occupies approximately 40,000 m² of grounds, providing space for full-size artificial-turf sports pitches, science and STEM laboratories, arts and drama facilities, dance and music studios, and an equestrian area. Land has been reserved for further expansion as student numbers grow.

Secondary School Opens (2019)

In August 2019, TWS launched its secondary division, welcoming the first Year 7 cohort. This extended the school's offer from primary through to Cambridge Lower Secondary and, subsequently, Cambridge IGCSE.

First Cambridge Examinations (2024)

The first cohort of IGCSE candidates sat their external examinations in May–June 2024, marking a landmark moment of external validation for the school's secondary programme.

IB Diploma Authorisation (June 2024)

On 4 June 2024, the International Baccalaureate Organisation granted TWS authorisation as an IB World School for the Diploma Programme. The first IBDP students commenced their two-year course in August 2024, completing the school's full Through-School pathway from Nursery to Year 13.
