Founding and Early Years

Bangkok Christian International School opened its doors on August 22, 1997, with just 34 students. The school was established under the direction of a Korean missionary foundation (KMF), responding to the educational needs of Korean and international Christian missionary families serving in Thailand. Bangkok at the time had several international schools, but few that offered both affordable fees and explicit Christian faith integration.

Growth and Diversification

Over the following two decades, BCIS steadily grew its student body and faculty. As the school's reputation developed, it broadened its admissions to welcome families from diplomatic, governmental, business, and general expatriate backgrounds. The student community expanded from its original Korean missionary base to include students from over 22 nationalities, making the school a genuinely multicultural environment while retaining its Christian ethos.

By the mid-2020s, BCIS had grown to approximately 543 students supported by 64 qualified teachers, giving a student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 8.5:1 — notably smaller than many Bangkok international schools.

Accreditation Milestones

A major institutional milestone was earning accreditation from NCA CASI (USA), validating BCIS's American curriculum as meeting rigorous international standards. The school is also affiliated with the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), the International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT), and participates in the Thai International Schools Activities Conference (TISAC) for interscholastic sports and activities.

Present Day

Today, BCIS occupies a unique niche in Bangkok's international school landscape: a Christian-faith school offering American-curriculum education at fees significantly lower than the city's elite international schools, making quality international education accessible to a wider range of families.

Despite its relatively modest size of approximately 543 students, Bangkok Christian International School is home to a remarkably diverse community. Open Enrollment Policy

Unlike many Bangkok international schools that conduct competitive admissions with entrance examinations, interviews, and limited intake windows, Bangkok Christian International School operates an open enrollment policy. This means that families can apply at any point throughout the academic year and, subject to the availability of places in the relevant grade, students may be admitted without sitting a formal entrance exam.

This approach reflects BCIS's founding mission of accessibility — making international, Christian-centered education available to missionary, pastoral, diplomatic, and expatriate families who may arrive in Bangkok at any time of year.

Application Process

The admissions process begins with submitting an application form accompanied by a non-refundable application fee of THB 5,000. Upon acceptance, families pay a one-time admission fee:

• Kindergarten (K1–K3): THB 120,000
• Elementary and High School (Grades 1–12): THB 140,000

These admission fees are classified as enrollment confirmation fees and are separate from the annual tuition.

No Highly Selective Entrance Exams

BCIS does not publicise competitive entrance examinations or selective assessment procedures. The admissions process focuses on determining a student's readiness for the English-medium American curriculum and identifying any support needs (such as EAL or Special Needs Support Services). There is no published acceptance rate, which is consistent with a school that accepts most applicants with available space.

Academic Year Structure

The BCIS academic year begins in August and is divided into two semesters structured around four quarters. This aligns with the U.S. academic calendar, making transitions from other American-curriculum schools straightforward for incoming families.

Support for New Students

BCIS offers EAL (English as a Foreign Language) support for students who are not yet fluent in English, and Special Needs Support Services are available as required. This inclusive approach means families whose children may need additional language or learning support are not excluded from the admissions process.

Curriculum Framework

Bangkok Christian International School offers a K–12 American curriculum accredited by NCA CASI (USA). The curriculum is structured around U.S. national academic standards, with core subjects including English Language Arts, Mathematics (aligned to CCSS), Science (NGSS-aligned for lower grades), Social Studies, Physical Education, Fine Arts, Music, and Computer/ICT. A distinctive addition is Bible/Christian Studies, which is compulsory across all grade levels, ensuring that faith integration is consistent throughout a student's time at BCIS.

Language of Instruction

All academic subjects (with the exception of foreign language classes) are taught in English, making BCIS a fully English-medium school. Thai Language and Culture is offered as part of the curriculum, and additional foreign language options may be available. EAL support is provided for students still developing English proficiency.

High School and University Preparation

At the high school level (Grades 9–12), BCIS prepares students for international university entry.
