Cambridge, IB, American and French Routes Coexist
Phuket's international schools do not converge on one qualification. Cambridge International routes, running IGCSE into AS and A Level, are common within British-style schools, while the International Baccalaureate appears both as a whole-school model and as a senior destination after a British lower-secondary programme. American-standard pathways operate alongside these, though families need to check whether graduation rests on a locally awarded diploma, Advanced Placement or IB results, since practice is not uniform. A smaller French national stream, including the Brevet and Baccalauréat, also operates in the market. Universities generally recognise all of these routes but apply their own subject-combination and grade rules; a current Thai university admissions document, for example, sets different conditions for American, British and IB applicants. Families planning for medicine, engineering or selective overseas courses should confirm subject prerequisites years in advance rather than assuming any qualification is a universal passport.
