The American International School of Johannesburg traces its origins to an unlikely setting: a Fourth of July picnic in 1982. Expatriate families living in Johannesburg, led by Ed Norman, gathered to celebrate American Independence Day and, in doing so, decided they needed a proper American-style school for their children. An Accessible, Rolling Admissions Process

Unlike many elite international schools that operate a single, competitive annual intake, AISJ operates a rolling admissions model with two principal entry points per academic year:

• August — start of Semester 1 (the main US-aligned academic year start)
• January — start of Semester 2 (mid-year entry for families relocating)

English Language Requirements

As AISJ is an English-medium school, all students are expected to have sufficient English proficiency to access the curriculum. However, the school is not exclusively for native English speakers:
