The campus has been substantially modernized over the past decade, creating a stimulating, purpose-built environment for learning and community.

Admissions at ASB

The American School of Barcelona operates a structured but accessible admissions process designed to identify students who will thrive in an English-medium, internationally diverse environment.

Application Process

All applications are submitted through OpenApply, ASB's online admissions platform. The process involves:

1. Completing the division-specific online application form
2. Paying the non-refundable €250 application fee
3. Submitting official academic records for the last two years
4. Providing teacher recommendation letters
5. Completing age-appropriate student assessments in English and mathematics

For younger children (Early Childhood), assessments take the form of developmental observation. For older students, formal English and math tasks are used to evaluate readiness for grade-level coursework.

Holistic Review

ASB's admissions committee conducts a comprehensive review of each candidate, considering:

• English language proficiency (current level and trajectory)
• Academic performance and records
• Teacher references and character assessments
• Assessment results
• The student's overall fit for ASB's community

Non-native English speakers may receive additional evaluation, and the school's English Language Center provides EAL support for admitted students who need language development.

Decisions and Waiting Pool

Admissions outcomes fall into three categories:

• Place Offered: Accepted; family has four weeks to pay the enrollment deposit to confirm the seat
• Waiting Pool: Eligible but grade is currently full; family is contacted as space becomes available
• Not Accepted: Not suitable for admission at this time

Importantly, placement in the Waiting Pool does not confer priority for the following academic year.

Key Timelines

• Recommended application deadline: January 31 for September (fall) entry
• Rolling admissions: Applications accepted year-round for mid-year entry when spaces are available
• New families are welcomed at an orientation event in late August before the school year begins

Fees

• Application Fee: €250 (non-refundable, per application)
• Annual Matriculation Fee: €975 (returning students)
• Capital Levy (new students only, one-time): €3,000 for Early Childhood; €6,000 for Grades 1+

Scholarships

ASB offers the "Little Lynx" scholarship for families entering PK3, providing 15–35% tuition reduction (need-based, renewable through Grade 6) for Spanish residents and alumni children. The scholarship also halves the PK3 capital levy. Sibling discounts are also available (10% for the 3rd child, 20% for the 4th+ child on tuition).
