History of the American School of Doha

Founding (1988)

The American School of Doha was established in 1988 through a deliberate partnership between the United States Embassy in Doha and leading members of the Qatari community. The school's founding purpose was to serve and empower the growing international community in Qatar — a country that was, at the time, beginning to attract significant foreign investment and expatriate talent. The school opened as the "American International School", operating out of a villa and initially serving only Grades 1–5.

Early Growth (1990–1998)

Demand grew quickly. By 1990, the school had outgrown its original premises and moved to a dedicated campus, simultaneously expanding its programme to include up to Grade 8. Eight years later, in 1998, a further campus move was necessary: ASD opened a purpose-built facility in the Al Bustan area of Doha, providing much more comprehensive facilities for its growing student body.

Major Expansion (2007)

The school's ongoing growth necessitated yet another significant investment. In 2007, a new, purpose-built Middle School and High School campus came into use, allowing ASD to offer a fully integrated PreK–12 experience across dedicated, age-appropriate facilities.

Campus Transformation (2017)

The most recent major development came in 2017, when ASD undertook a substantial campus expansion that added:

ASD operates three swimming pools on campus:
