Founding (1903)

Branksome Hall was established in 1903 by head teacher Margaret Scott, who envisioned an academically rigorous school for young women in Toronto. The school's name derives from Branksome Tower in Sir Walter Scott's poem Marmion, reflecting the founder's Scottish heritage — a cultural thread that persists today in the school's adoption of the Hunting Stewart tartan as part of its uniform tradition.

Relocation to Rosedale

In the early decades of the twentieth century, the school outgrew its original downtown premises and relocated to 592 Sherbourne Street in the prestigious Rosedale neighbourhood, acquiring the historic Holly Dean estate. This move established the physical foundation for what would become a 13-acre urban campus in the heart of Toronto.
