History of American Prep International School

American Prep International School was established in June 2015 in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, southern Thailand. It was co-founded by Dr. Phakdee Mangmiwatthana and Dr. Adelino Libato, both holding doctoral degrees in education. Their shared vision was to create an international elementary school that combined rigorous American academic standards with cutting-edge digital pedagogy – something that had not yet been done at scale in the Thai international school sector.

Upon founding, APIS immediately received a Thai Ministry of Education licence as an accredited international school offering a United States (California) curriculum. This regulatory approval gave the school legitimacy from the outset and signalled its commitment to operating within official quality frameworks.

The E-Learning Innovation

From its very first year, APIS positioned itself as Thailand's first fully blended e-learning international elementary school. Rather than using technology as a supplementary tool, the founders embedded laptops, digital textbooks, and online platforms into the core instructional model. Curriculum Framework

APIS follows the California state academic standards – the same framework used by public schools across the US state of California. This American curriculum is structured to cover English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Information Technology, Art, Music, and Physical Education across Pre-K to Grade 6. Thai language and culture classes are also integrated for local students.

For core academic subjects, the school uses McGraw-Hill/Glencoe textbooks, ensuring alignment with the California standards in a familiar, internationally recognised format.

Admissions at APIS

Open and Year-Round

One of the most distinctive aspects of APIS admissions is that the school accepts applications year-round – there is no single application deadline or fixed intake window. Families relocating to Hat Yai mid-year can apply at any point, subject to available places. The school does not operate a formal waitlist, reflecting its open admissions philosophy and the relatively small community it serves.

Age Requirements

• Pre-Kindergarten: Applicant must be at least 2 years old by August 1 of the year of entry.
• Grade 1: Applicant must be at least 6 years old by August 1 of the year of entry.

1. Submit the application form with supporting documents: passport-sized photos, birth certificate, previous school transcripts or records, and (for non-Thai nationals) relevant visa documents.

Fees at Entry

Families should budget for a one-time admission package of THB 80,000 (which includes a non-refundable Campus Development Fund of THB 50,000 and a Books/E-books fee of THB 25,000), plus a refundable security deposit of THB 5,000. Annual tuition then ranges from THB 170,000 (Pre-K–K3) to THB 190,000 (Grades 4–6), billed in two equal instalments per term.
