Curriculum Pathway

Northlands offers a coherent K–12 academic pathway structured around three internationally recognised frameworks:

• IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) — authorised since 2008, covering Early Years through Primary. Inquiry-based and transdisciplinary, the PYP develops conceptual understanding, research skills, and the foundational attributes of the IB Learner Profile.
• Cambridge IGCSE — provides external academic benchmarking in the middle secondary years (typically Years 10–11), offering rigorous subject-specific assessment recognised by universities worldwide.
• IB Diploma Programme (DP) — authorised since 2008, the DP offers bilingual instruction across six subject groups with students selecting higher and standard level subjects according to their interests and university aspirations.

Bilingual Academic Instruction

Instruction across all three programmes is delivered in both English and Spanish in an approximately equal ratio. This is not a transitional bilingual model — both languages are used as full media of instruction across academic subjects, not merely in language classes. Olivos: The Historic Heart

The Olivos campus at Roma 1248 is the school's founding site, set on approximately two hectares of mature, leafy grounds in one of Buenos Aires' most desirable northern suburbs. The campus houses Early Years, Primary, and Secondary buildings arranged around green spaces that lend the site a calm, collegiate atmosphere unusual in a metropolitan setting.

Facilities at Olivos include fully equipped science laboratories, a multilingual library, visual arts studios, music rooms, a semi-Olympic indoor pool (25 × 12.5 m on the ground floor), an indoor gymnasium, and the celebrated Brightman Hall — a 500-seat auditorium with an additional outdoor amphitheatre, opened in 2021 and named for co-founder Winifred Brightman. Outdoor sports fields and athletic tracks complete the offering. The campus is accessible by the Mitre suburban rail line (Olivos station, approximately 10 minutes' walk), making it convenient for families across Zona Norte.

Nordelta: Modern Campus, Natural Setting

Opened in 1998, the Nordelta campus occupies a spacious ten-hectare site within the master-planned Nordelta community in Tigre municipality, approximately 35 km north of central Buenos Aires. The campus serves students from Sala de 1 (age 1) through Year 12 and has undergone significant expansion in recent years.

In 2019 Nordelta unveiled a landmark 700 m² multipurpose hall — a light-filled structure with polycarbonate panels capable of hosting 700 seated guests or up to 892 in combined configuration — alongside a new heated indoor semi-Olympic pool (25 × 12.5 m with 230 fixed seats). These additions complemented existing science labs, libraries, arts studios, and outdoor sports fields, making Nordelta one of the best-resourced international school campuses in Argentina.

A Shared School Spirit

Despite being geographically separate, the two campuses operate as a single school with a unified leadership, shared curriculum, and common House system. Students at both sites wear the same uniform, participate in interhouse competitions, and celebrate shared traditions. The House system — to which all Primary students are assigned upon entry — creates vertical communities that span year groups and foster mentorship between older and younger students.

Transport and Accessibility

Both campuses are served by an outsourced school bus network covering the main residential zones of Zona Norte. The Nordelta campus also benefits from on-site shuttle services within the Nordelta neighbourhood. The Olivos campus is walkable from Olivos station on the Mitre Line, while Nordelta is accessible via train to Pacheco and onward shuttle.

Origins and Founding Vision

Northlands School was established on 1 April 1920 in the leafy suburb of Olivos, Buenos Aires, by Winifred Brightman and Mildred Slater — two English educators who shared a conviction that Argentine children deserved access to a rigorous, bilingual education grounded in British values. The school opened its doors to just 16 pupils, yet from those modest beginnings it quickly earned a reputation for academic rigour and moral purpose that would define it for the next century.

The motto Friendship and Service was adopted in the school's early years and has remained central to institutional identity ever since — shaping everything from the House system to community outreach programmes.

From Girls' School to Coeducation

Originally coeducational, Northlands transitioned to an all-girls institution in 1923, a status it maintained for over seven decades. The decision to return to coeducation in 1999 reflected both demographic changes in Argentina's international community and a desire to mirror the inclusive ethos of the IB programmes the school was beginning to adopt. Today Northlands is fully coeducational across all year levels.

Campus Expansion

Growth in the expatriate and upper-middle-class Argentine population of Greater Buenos Aires prompted the opening of a second campus in the Nordelta residential community (Tigre municipality) in 1998. The Nordelta campus brought the school into one of the fastest-growing planned communities in Argentina, offering modern facilities on a spacious ten-hectare site. By 2025 the two campuses together served approximately 1,960 students from more than 44 nationalities.

Recent Milestones

The school's centenary in 2020 coincided with a period of significant capital investment. In 2019, Nordelta unveiled a new 700 m² multipurpose hall with capacity for approximately 892 persons alongside a heated semi-Olympic indoor pool (25 × 12.5 m). At Olivos, the 500-seat Brightman Hall auditorium — named in honour of co-founder Winifred Brightman — opened in 2021, giving the campus a world-class performing arts venue.
