Eligibility: Expatriates Only

SHSID's admissions policy is distinctive and clearly defined: the school enrolls only children of foreign nationals residing in Shanghai, including those from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Mainland Chinese families are not eligible to apply. Competitive Entrance Examinations

Admission is not guaranteed merely by eligibility. SHSID uses a rigorous entrance examination process to select students:

• Grades 1–9: Written and oral tests covering English, Mathematics, and Chinese

Application Process

The process begins with online registration, followed by submission of a non-refundable application fee of ¥1,000 RMB. Shanghai High School International Division (SHSID) traces its roots to one of China's most storied educational institutions. Shanghai High School itself was established in 1865, making it one of the oldest secondary schools in China. In 1993, responding to the surge of expatriate families entering Shanghai as China opened to foreign investment, the school created an International Division designed to provide world-class education to the children of foreign nationals.
