What the independent evidence shows

The Council of International Schools, an accreditor independent of the school, announced that Garden International School, Malaysia was re-accredited by CIS on 6 January 2025. CIS accreditation is quality-assurance evidence; it is not a numerical ranking and does not by itself establish that GIS is better than any other school.

What could not be verified

An independent, methodology-transparent numerical ranking of GIS was not found in the sources reviewed. The school's own statements that it ranks among leading British international schools are institutional self-description rather than external assessment, and should be read as such.

How selection and the wait-pool work

GIS publishes a wait-pool mechanism: eligible applicants can be placed there when places are exceeded in a year group, EAL or Learning Support. The school states that selection can consider English level, academic proficiency, subject or exam choices, and class and school gender and nationality balance.

The published enrolment terms state that where there is no vacancy in the applied year group for the proposed term and academic year, the application automatically proceeds to the following term unless the parent withdraws it. The same terms say an applicant who is unsuccessful because of an unsatisfactory assessment may reapply after at least six months.

Place availability for 2026/27

The school's place-availability table for Term 1, 2026/27 (August to December 2026) listed applications as closed for Years 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13, while Nursery through Year 6 and Year 10 were listed as having limited places. Availability changes over time, so families should confirm the current position directly with the school.

Size and nationality mix

GIS reports educating over 2,000 students and describes its community as representing over 65 nationalities. In a school-published September 2023 applicant guide, GIS stated it enrolled approximately 1,800 students from over 65 countries, that approximately 35% of the roll was Malaysian, and that British was the second-largest nationality group.

An undated COBIS case study records an attributed statement by the school's principal that GIS had over 2,200 students aged 3 to 18 with a diverse student mix. This is a school-leader statement rather than a published independent enrolment dataset, so it should not be read as a current verified roll.

Day school, and what is not published

GIS states it is a day school: boarding is not available, and students must live with a parent or legal guardian.

The school reports broad nationality diversity but does not publish a current international-versus-local student percentage, family income information, or a parent occupational profile in the reviewed sources.

Reported 2025 destinations

For the Class of 2025, GIS states that 94 Year 13 students graduated and will study 41 courses at 45 institutions in 12 countries, and that 1 in 5 will attend a QS Top 10 university while 1 in 2 will attend a QS Top 100 university.

The Sixth Form prospectus says GIS placed graduates at 86 universities worldwide over the last three years, but does not state student counts by university or distinguish offers, acceptances and matriculations for each named institution.

What a small number of reviews say

Across three public sources dated between August 2024 and June 2025, several parent mentions describe teachers positively, referring to accessibility, encouragement or rapport. There were no negative or mixed mentions in this small set.

This is a very limited sample drawn from review and community platforms, and no single theme appears across enough independent sources to support a firm conclusion. It should be treated as anecdotal rather than representative.

Campus Reimagined programme

GIS states that Phase 1 of its Campus Reimagined programme, including a Sports Complex and basement car park, was completed in 2025, with facilities described as a rooftop 50 m pool, two indoor basketball courts, two outdoor tennis courts, an artificial-turf field and a gym.

The school says Phase 2B, a Performing Arts Centre, is expected to open in late 2026. As of 25 August 2026 this is described as a planned development rather than a completed operating facility. Both items are school-stated and not independently verified.

Points for families to weigh

GIS is a day school: boarding is unavailable, and students must live with a parent or legal guardian. Families seeking residential provision would need another option.

The stated 2026/27 annual tuition ranges from RM52,440 for Nursery to RM140,670 for Year 9 EAL, before the stated SST treatment. Uniform, transport, cafeteria meals, co-curricular activities, trips and camps, exam fees and technology devices are excluded, so families should budget beyond the headline tuition.
