Nexus International School Malaysia has built a reputation as one of Malaysia's leading IB schools — and its examination results bear this out consistently.

IB Diploma Programme

In the 2025 examination session, the Nexus cohort achieved an average score of 33 points, comfortably above the global IB average of approximately 30.5. Eight students scored 40 or above (out of a maximum 45), and five students achieved 43 or above — a remarkable feat that places those individuals in an extraordinarily small cohort worldwide. The school has historically seen students achieve the perfect score of 45, an achievement attained by only a fraction of candidates globally each year. The pass rate is effectively 100%.

The school has been recognised as being in the top 2% of IB schools globally — a distinction that reflects the consistency of these outcomes year after year, not a single exceptional cohort.

Cambridge IGCSE

At IGCSE level (Years 10–11), the 2025 results were equally impressive: a 100% pass rate, with 94% of all grades awarded at A or A*, and 64% of grades at A* to B. These figures place Nexus IGCSE outcomes well above both UK national averages and the international school norm for Cambridge programmes.

University Destinations

Nexus's academic culture is perhaps best summarised by its university placement record. For the Class of 2025, 100% of university offers received were from institutions ranked in the global QS Top 100. Recent graduate destinations include:

Inside the Classroom

The academic culture is characterised by high expectations, personalised support and collaborative learning. Small class sizes (average 20, maximum 24) and a student–teacher ratio of approximately 12:1 mean that teachers know their students well and can tailor instruction accordingly. The IB Diploma Hub provides a dedicated workspace for senior students, while the secondary learning hub enables flexible, cross-year collaborative projects. Science laboratories (Chemistry, Physics, Biology), a dedicated ICT/Maker Space, and a well-resourced library system complete the academic infrastructure.

Academically, the Nexus Way translates into an inquiry-based, student-centred learning model. Teachers are facilitators rather than lecturers, guiding students to ask questions, investigate, and construct knowledge collaboratively. Technology is deeply embedded: Nexus holds Apple Distinguished School status (awarded 2015), and the campus is equipped with ICT labs, maker spaces, digital design studios and a film suite. This technology-forward approach aligns naturally with the IB frameworks (PYP, MYP, DP) and Cambridge IGCSE, both of which reward critical thinking and independent inquiry over rote memorisation.

Inclusion and Well-being

The Inclusion pillar is operationalised through specialist EAL (English as an Additional Language) support, learning-support teachers, and Personal Learning Assistants who work alongside students with additional needs within the mainstream classroom. Campus Atmosphere and Facilities

Set on approximately 10 acres in Putrajaya — Malaysia's purpose-built administrative capital about 40 km south of Kuala Lumpur — the Nexus campus has been designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and physical activity in equal measure.

Performing Arts and Creative Spaces

At the heart of the campus is a 500-seat auditorium, fully equipped for large-scale performances, assemblies and visiting productions. Complementing it are drama and dance studios (black-box format with full lighting and AV), music practice rooms and a recording studio, all of which feed into the school's vibrant performing arts programme. A dedicated film room (broadcast/media suite) supports the school's filmmaking and moving image offerings, while art studios are equipped with 3D printers and digital design tools.

Science and Technology

Nexus's Apple Distinguished School status (since 2015) is reflected in its physical infrastructure. Dedicated Chemistry, Physics and Biology laboratories sit alongside an ICT Lab and Maker Space for robotics, coding and digital fabrication. The IB Diploma Hub provides a collaborative lounge and study space exclusively for senior students, reinforcing the school's belief that the learning environment matters.

Sports and Outdoor Education

Sports facilities include a 7,000 sq ft indoor sports hall with basketball, netball and volleyball courts and a bouldering/rock wall; a 25-metre lap pool and learners' wading pool; and an 11,000+ sqm main field for football and athletics, complete with a grandstand. Outdoor tennis, basketball and netball courts complete the offering.

Perhaps the most distinctive outdoor space is the Forest School — an enclosed rainforest area on the campus where students engage in outdoor education, nature study and survival skills. This connects directly to the 'Pathfinder' survival skills CCA and broader themes of environmental stewardship.

Early Years and Primary

The Early Years Centre comprises purpose-built classrooms that open directly onto age-appropriate play areas, ensuring that younger learners have access to outdoor learning from day one. Separate primary and secondary playgrounds further reflect the school's commitment to age-appropriate design.

Dining and Community Life

The cafeteria serves an Asian/Western buffet, while the Connexions Café provides a more informal space for snacks and socialising. A culinary/kitchen classroom allows students to develop life skills through cooking. For Muslim students, separate Islamic prayer rooms are provided.

Boarding House

The Boarding House (opened 2011, capacity ~120) is a fully integrated part of campus life, with shared and single rooms, common areas, study spaces, 24-hour nursing care and security. Free airport transfers to KLIA at term breaks and weekly bus connections make it accessible for students from across Malaysia and the wider region.

Community Life at Nexus

Nexus International School Malaysia is home to students from over 36 nationalities, split approximately 50/50 between Malaysian nationals and international pupils. This demographic diversity is one of the school's defining characteristics, and it is actively celebrated rather than simply tolerated.

Co-Curricular Breadth

The school offers 70+ co-curricular activities (CCAs), many of them student-led. The range is genuinely impressive:

Sports and Wellness: Football, swimming, gymnastics, tennis, taekwondo, archery, fencing (épée), yoga, kickboxing, touch rugby, badminton, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, netball, athletics, cricket, bouldering, cycling, drone soccer and a 'Pathfinder' survival skills programme.

Academic and Creative Clubs: Chess, robotics and coding (EV3/LEGO), STEM Club, Science Bridge Academy, debate, astronomy and space club, economics and financial literacy, world scholar's cup, reading clubs, board and strategy games, digital art/manga and animation, Chinese calligraphy, yearbook and Learner Bulletin (school newspaper), cooking and baking, knitting and sewing.

Service and Leadership: Model United Nations, Red Cross Society, Eco-Club, Medics' Society, gardening club, Enterprise (Young Business) Club, First Aid/CPR/AED training.

Music and Performing Arts: Wind band, orchestra, Gamelan ensemble, school rock band, jazz band, choir, junior and senior theatrical productions, photography club, filmmaking club.

Boarding Community

The boarding house is a community within a community. Its approximately 120 residents from across Malaysia and internationally live, study and socialise together, supported by houseparents, 24-hour nursing care and a structured but nurturing routine. The boarding programme was recognised as International School of the Year – Boarding by the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA) in 2023.

Pastoral Culture

The school's pastoral culture is grounded in the Nexus Way values — particularly Relationships and Inclusion. Restorative practices, counselling support and EAL/learning-support services ensure that every student feels seen and supported. There is no formal house system, but year-group mentoring and vertical activities bring students of different ages together regularly. The school nurse and counsellor are embedded in the community, not siloed in an office.

Parent Engagement

Nexus holds regular Open Days (typically in February and May) and parent–teacher conferences, and the admissions team operates on a rolling, open-door basis. The school's communications are transparent and warm, reflecting its stated value of 'Openness in Communication'.

Admissions Culture at Nexus

Nexus International School Malaysia takes a practical, student-centred approach to admissions. Unlike many competitive international schools that operate a single annual intake window, Nexus follows a rolling admissions model: families can apply at any time of year and join mid-term if a place is available. The school follows the Northern Hemisphere academic calendar (August to June), so the main intake is in August, but mid-year enrolment is actively accommodated.

The Process

1. Application: Families submit an application with a one-time application fee of RM 1,378 and provide prior school records and references.
2. Assessment: All applicants undergo an age-appropriate assessment — for younger children this is observational and activity-based; for secondary applicants it includes academic testing and evaluation of English proficiency.
3. Interview: Students (and typically parents) meet with academic staff. This is not a high-pressure examination interview but a placement conversation to ensure the school can meet the student's needs.
4. Offer and Acceptance: Successful applicants receive a conditional or final offer. A registration fee (RM 10,000 for Nursery/Early Years; RM 20,000 for Years 1–13) is payable upon acceptance, along with a refundable deposit equal to one term's tuition.

English Proficiency

All instruction at Nexus is in English, so a working level of English is generally expected. However, the school is explicit that EAL (English as an Additional Language) support is available for students who are still developing their English skills — specialist EAL teachers work within the mainstream classroom and in targeted withdrawal sessions. This makes Nexus genuinely accessible to families relocating from non-English-speaking countries, provided students have foundational capacity and motivation.

Selectivity and Waitlists

Nexus is a selective school: not every applicant is offered a place, and the school assesses whether it can appropriately support each individual learner. Demand is high — historically, certain year groups have been significantly oversubscribed, particularly for boarding places, with only approximately 1 in 6 applicants admitted when the school is at capacity. Waitlists are maintained and spaces offered as they arise.

Scholarships

Nexus offers merit-based scholarships for new entrants at Year 10 (IGCSE scholarship: 25–50% fee remission) and Year 12 (IB Diploma scholarship: partial or full tuition, and in some years covering registration and boarding fees as well). These are competitive awards for academically outstanding candidates and are announced annually. No need-based financial aid is currently offered.
